Relationship Advice: Do Little White Lies Help or Hurt Your Relationship?

Thursday, January 31st, 2008

By Jeff Barnet Do you know how sometimes people tell little white lies to keep from hurting someone or to avoid confrontation? Read on to find out how those little white lies can destroy your relationship. Digging a pit for yourself Lying to your spouse, no matter what the motivation, is digging a pit for yourself. It is crucial to be honest in your communication. Most people have good intentions when they lie about small issues; they dont want to hurt their spouses feelings. However, if your spouse discovers your dishonesty, then their trust in you will be undermined. One wife said, You have been lying to me about all these little things. How do I know you are not lying about bigger things? Your pit has now become a crater. The case of lemon chicken There is a classic example of this in the television sitcom, Everybody Loves Raymond. When Raymond and Debra are dating, she cooks lemon chicken for him. He tells her how much he liked it and that he could eat it for the rest of his life. Years later, Debra learns that he really dislikes lemon chicken. She is more hurt by the fact that he lied to her than the fact the he did not like the chicken. From the pit to the crater If you are not comfortable telling the truth about little things, then how will you tell the truth about major problems. For example, I have seen many couples be dishonest about money. Some women hide new clothes, because it was not in the budget. At the other extreme, I know men who did not tell their wives they were having financial trouble until after the vehicles were repossessed. Not only is this unfair to your partner, but it erodes trust and may take years to repair the damage. The crater can swallow you up It is not always easy to be honest with our spouse. Most of the time, we are sparing their feelings or avoiding confrontation. However, lying is toxic to a trusting relationship. The crater will swallow you up. Instead, commit to telling the truth. Career Planning

Thursday, January 31st, 2008

By Michael Colucci Whether you are about to graduate from college, or want to change jobs at a later point in life, career planning is a very important aspect of the process. Before you actually start applying for positions, it is essential to be certain of the areas you would like to work in. The worst thing that could happen is not to take any steps in the career planning process, and end up in a job that you are unhappy with, or do not have the proper skill set for. Career quizzes are often helpful in the career planning process. These are often a great first step when trying to determine what type of jobs you’d be best suited for. Many are available online, and address some of the following areas: identifying your skills and abilities; determining if you prefer working with people, data or things; or summarizing what workplace values are most important to you. By compiling all of this information, you’ll usually get a general idea of what fields you should be seriously checking out. The quizzes often list suitable occupations based on your answers. One avenue that would be best to explore is signing up for career counseling. There are many free services, mainly ones offered by the government, or at post-secondary institutions, that will get you started on your career planning journey. Career counselors are trained professionals that will be able to offer you advice and make realistic recommendations on what area you would be best suited to work in. They will look over your academic training, and often administer aptitude tests to see what careers you should be exploring. Researching companies that you could picture yourself working for is another great step in the career planning process. Check out their websites for information, and to see what type of positions they may be hiring for. When possible, try to set up a meeting with a member of the department you’d like to be a part of, so that you may ask them questions and find out about the day to day aspects of the company on a more intimate level. Check the newspapers and magazines to see if the company is mentioned at all, and see if the articles are favorable or not. Although this may seem very simple, it can be a valuable part of your career planning. If you think you may need to go back to school in order to make a career change, obtaining a catalogue from a local post-secondary institution is a good way to kick start career planning. Look through what programs are offered, what skills are required to be accepted to programs of interest, and what type of a time commitment you’d be looking at in order to make this change. See if prior employment or life experience will work in your favor, and give you advanced standing into your selected programs. People often forget to check into educational requirements for certain careers, and may waste time and energy by skipping this step in the career planning process. An often underrated aspect of career planning is talking with your friends and family. Discuss with them in detail what it is they do, and ask them to honestly tell you what they could picture you doing for a living. Who knows? They may see something that you’ve overlooked, and it could be the missing link to your career planning process. Career planning is something that everyone is faced with at some point in their lives, and it should not be taken lightly, although you can have some fun with it. Most important of all is to be honest and realistic with yourself, and make sure you ultimately choose a path that will make you happy and keep you financially secure. Used Home Tanning Beds

Wednesday, January 30th, 2008

By Ken Marlborough When shopping for a used tanning bed, it is important to compare different models available. It will provide us an idea about the construction of the equipment and overall durability. Used home tanning beds are refurbished old tanning beds which can be purchased at cheap rates. Used home tanning beds are mostly in good condition; tanning beds are put up for sale when people change residences and do not want to lug them around. You can buy directly from individuals or entrust the transaction to a dealer. Tanning bed dealers sell used home tanning beds after installing new lamps and good acrylic sheets. They also provide a warranty of 90 days for used home tanning beds’ parts. Buying a used home tanning bed is similar to buying any other product or appliance that has been used before. But before buying a used home tanning bed, we must know the model, the manufacturing year and the features to avoid future problems. Older models are considered to be less safe than the new models. This is because the type A ultraviolet radiation (UV-A) is emitted by some of the lamps in the older model home tanning beds. This type of radiation can cause skin cancer and other similar diseases. So the new models possess the lamps, which produce the type B ultraviolet radiation (UV-B) only. It is ideal to choose vendors who are geographically close to you, and check out the bed before purchase. Details of used home tanning beds are available on some websites. You can browse through available products and make a selection. Tanning Beds provides detailed information on Tanning Beds, Tanning Bed Lotion, Home Tanning Beds, Commercial Tanning Beds and more. Tanning Beds is affiliated with Sunless Tanning Lotion. From Job Interview to Job Owner: 7 Tips

Tuesday, January 29th, 2008

By Cathy Goodwin, Ph.D. These days, job interview invitations don’t arrive as frequently as they once did When you get The Call, make the most of your time — and go for it! 1. Investigate the company’s culture, markets, and finances. But resist the temptation to show off what you’ve researched: “I just read that you’re about to embark on a new product line”) unless you have a question directly related to your career. 2. Look like you belong. Learn the company’s dress code and err on the side of conservatism. When you’re seeking a senior position based on industry experience, you’ll be expected to know the rules without being told. 3. Take charge of the interview! The most successful interviews feel like friendly conversations. When your interviewer has an agenda (such as the infamous “stress interview”) stay relaxed. Think of playing a game. 4. Assume everyone you meet will provide feedback to the decision-maker. Some companies hand out comment forms to receptionists, security guards and potential peers who take you to lunch. 5. Communicate interest and enthusiasm, even if you’re not sure you’re ready to commit. You will rarely have all the facts until you’re looking at an offer. 6. Bring extra copies of your correspondence from this company as well as your resume, references, writing samples, portfolio and current business cards. Interviewers lose documents and conversations move in unexpected directions. 7. Create a relaxed, positive attitude by devising a realistic game plan. When your career isn’t riding on a single interview, you’ll have fun and make a confident, relaxed impression. 8. Write a thank you letter within forty-eight hours. Create a low-key sales letter, emphasizing how your qualifications match the company’s needs. Present yourself as a resource, not a supplicant. 9. After you write the letter, forget about the interview. Email or phone only if you’ve received a competing offer with a deadline. Occasionally you may make points with follow-up mailings. A sports team public relations applicant sent puzzles, games and press releases — and she got the job. Use your intuition. 10. Keep notes of what you learned from the process. What worked? What would you do differently? As soon as you begin your new job, develop a career plan and a safety net before you need one. Canadian Immigration Pass Mark

Sunday, January 27th, 2008

By Alex Berez As you may already know, life in Canada provides many advantages, including universal health care and reduced safety concerns. For this reason, Canada had to implement a program that would prevent the country from being overwhelmed by immigrants. Having an influx of too many new people would simply be too great a strain on the current system and could cause it to collapse. Canada does want immigrants to come to their country. Otherwise, they wouldnt have lowered the required Pass-Mark score from 75 to 67. However, they do want to ensure that all new immigrants will be able to fit into their culture, will be able to support themselves and their families, and will make a positive contribution to the community into which they move. The Pass-Mark system is a method of evaluating individuals who apply to become permanent Canadian residents based on those standards. Elements of the Pass-Mark System The Pass-Mark System evaluates applicants in six areas: Education Language ability Work experience Age Arranged employment in Canada Adaptability Each of these areas can earn you a specific number of points based on your responses. The maximum number of points available for each area is listed below: Education 25 points Language 24 points Work experience 21 points Age 10 points Arranged employment in Canada 10 points Adaptability 10 points In my next article, well talk a little about what each of the focus of each of these different areas. The Truth About Weight Loss Myths

Saturday, January 26th, 2008

By Gary Matthews Lets face it every regime has its own supply of useless folklore and half-truths that get passed on down the line from person to person. But I’d put weight loss up against any of them for what has to be the most time wasting and even the most dangerous myths out there. There is a ton of free advice seen in the media these days and if it is taken seriously, can really set you back on your weight loss endeavours. This can lead to the kind of frustration that makes people think they are “destined to remain fat for the rest of their life”. This in not true, Have a look at the Weight loss myths below and draw your own conclusions. Exercise on an empty stomach and burn more fat. Effective weight loss is the total amount of calories burned during the day, not how or why they were burned. It doesn’t matter if it is night or morning, so exercise early in the day has no advantage to exercise later in the day. Studies show that increased metabolism induced by anaerobic exercise is actually less after a large meal. Which probably means that more energy is being used for digestion than what is being used to repair muscle. More exercise is better. Every exercise session is beneficial to each individual, however more is not always better. It depends on what is trying to be achieved. There is a level and frequency required to achieve results. After this level is reached, additional exercise can have the opposite effect, not allowing the body to recuperate and adapt to the stress induced by the exercise, which can be detrimental to your results. After stopping exercise muscle will turn to fat. This in not possible, Muscle and fat are two different types of tissues in the body and you cannot convert one into the other. This is like trying to turn water into oil. If you stop training, the muscles will shrink in size but they will not disappear. The more calories taken in that are not burned off will be deposited as fat. If you’re not sweating, you’re not working hard enough. Sweating is the body’s way of cooling itself down. Many factors contribute to body temperature, including room temperature, types of exercise done, body-fat levels, clothing, and exercise intensity. The intensity for exercise can’t be judged by the amount you sweat. A well-trained person will often sweat a lot because their body can more efficiently regulate heat. Taking sugar before exercise raises energy levels. Ingestion of sugar will lead to a rapid rise in blood sugar levels. This rapid rise stimulates a release of insulin, which quickly removes the excess sugar from the blood system, often causing your blood sugar levels to drop, sometimes below the level that it started at, leading to faster exhaustion. Gaining weight is just a part of getting older. Getting older is not an excuse for gaining weight! As we age and begin a more sedentary lifestyle we start to lose muscle mass. The efficiency of your metabolism is directly linked to how much muscle you have on your body. The most efficient way of maintaining your body’s muscle mass and keeping your metabolism from dropping is by doing a high intensity strength-training workout once a week. If it’s fat free I can have as much as I want. Unfortunately fat free doesn’t mean calorie free. The word fat free is misleading because if you overeat on anything, even fat free foods and you don’t burn off those calories; your body will store the excess as fat. Don’t drink water when you exercise or you will get cramps. By drinking litres of icy cold water in one go while exercising you will probably suffer from cramps. This is why it is important to drink water continuously before, during and after exercising to replace the fluid you’ve lost and avoid any discomfort. By not having a personal trainer I wont make gains. Hiring a personal trainer is one way you can use to reach your goals, but you are an adult capable of making decisions and setting your own goals once you have the knowledge of how to go about it. Following a good exercise program and eating plan does not require someone standing over you and telling you how to do it. By exercising my abs I will lose my potbelly. Exercising your abdominals will help to tone and firm the abdominal region, but it will not reduce fat deposits that are responsible for a potbelly. Fat reduction comes from burning more calories than you take in. Fat is reduced uniformly throughout the body there is no such thing as spot reduction. Your next step? To take what you have just learned and the next time you hear a weight loss myth evaluate it scientifically. Eight Cheap Honeymoon Ideas for Couples on a Budget

Friday, January 25th, 2008

By Jerry Windley-Daoust Between paying for the wedding and setting up a new household, many couples find theres not much money left in their budget for the honeymoon. But who says you have to spend a fortune to enjoy a romantic honeymoon at your dream destination? Here are eight ideas for a more affordable, yet still romantic, honeymoon. 1. Ask for the gift of a honeymoon You can defray the cost of your honeymoon, or perhaps even cover the cost entirely, by listing it on a honeymoon gift registry. A honeymoon registry works just like a wedding registry, but instead of buying you china your wedding guests buy you a trip to China (or the honeymoon destination of your choice). Yes, your guests could just contribute cash toward your honeymoon, but giving a particular portion of the honeymoon (dinner at a fancy restaurant, or a carriage ride through the historic district of a far-off city, for example) is somehow more meaningful. Youll find a number of honeymoon registries online; theBigDay.com and theHoneymoon.com are two of the most established. 2. Exchange homes If you prefer to mingle with the locals rather than other tourists, look into a home exchange for your honeymoon. In a nutshell, you go stay in someone elses house while they stay in yours. Sound risky? Maybebut tens of thousands of people have exchanged homes since the 1950s. For an annual membership fee (usually around $50), home exchange clubs will help you find someone willing to swap homes with you, as well as offering tips to make the exchange go smoothly. According to ExchangeHomes.com, a home exchange can cut your travel costs by as much as half. More importantly, though, youll get to live like locals, and perhaps make life-long friends. 3. Rely on the hospitality of others Hospitality clubs can hook you up with people who are willing to host you in their private homes. The largest such club has more than 23,000 members in 148 countries. Membership is usually free, although youre asked to provide hospitality to others (on a voluntary basis) in return sometime in the future. In addition to saving you money, its a great way to meet locals who can give you an insiders perspective on your honeymoon destination. Other places you can look for free or reduced-cost accommodations include hostels (theyre not just for the young and single anymore) and monasteries and convents, some of which open their doors to guests for little or no charge. 4. Win a free honeymoon “Nothing in life is free”unless you win a free honeymoon vacation in a promotional sweepstakes or contest. Quite a few travel agencies and other companies run contests giving away honeymoon vacations as a way of promoting their services. The odds of winning a free honeymoon may be remote, but the cost of entering is usually just the time you spend searching the web for honeymoon contest and filling out online entry forms. 5. Go camping Firelight and shooting stars every night . . . breathtaking natural beauty . . . snuggling with your honey in a cocoon of zipped-together sleeping bags . . . . Yes, camping can be romantic, as long youre well prepared and have the right equipment (warm sleeping bags, a comfortable mattress pad, and a waterproof tent are a must). Plus, its pretty cheap–$10 to $20 per night at most locations. Its even cheaper if you cook your own food. You can mix a few nights of camping with a few nights in hotels to make your honeymoon more affordable. And dont overlook the rustic (but cheap) cabins available for rent at many state and national parks. Some even offer a honeymoon cabin! 6. Travel in the off season It may be obvious to seasoned travelers, but those with less experience may not be aware of how affordable it can be to honeymoon in the off seasonbasically, any time other than when most people travel to your destination. Certain destinations accommodation and airfare prices may be slashed by 30 percent or more during the off-season compared to the peak travel season. 7. Consider your airline alternatives When booking airfare online, dont overlook the discount airlines (Southwest, Song, jetBlue, and so on)some are not listed on the big travel portal websites, even though they might have a lower fare to your destination. Also be sure to compare rates for alternate airports within a reasonable traveling distance. You might live half an hour from a major airport, but the smaller airport a couple hours away might have substantially lower fares, perhaps saving you hundreds of dollars. Finally, be flexible about your arrival and departure dates; the major travel portals all have options to search for the cheapest flights within a range of dates. Any one of these alternatives could potentially save you hundreds of dollars. 8. Check budget travel newsletters If youre not picky about where you honeymoon, you can probably cash in on promotional deals offering deep discounts on airfare and lodgingif you know about them. To stay abreast of the latest offers, sign up with as many free budget travel newsletters as you can. Start by signing up with the budget travel newsletters offered by Frommers.com, About.com, and MSNBC. Jerry Windley-Daoust profiles cheap honeymoon ideas at the Creative Honeymoon Ideas website. Presidential Brokerage

Thursday, January 24th, 2008

By Milos Pesic Established in the initial stages of the 1990s, Presidential Brokerage started with a unique chief goal which is to create a profitable business by treating its customers in the manner where they themselves would want to be dealt with. The practice of ethics and fairness, even with the fact that the two are strange commodities in pecuniary matter, were very critical in building a solid foundation of what it is at this point. Today, the tradition of Presidential Brokerage has never wavered. Even with the accomplishments under its feathers, they still characterize themselves as having that small culture where every single transaction is greatly appreciated. It also goes along with their products and benefits that appear in huge bundles. Due to their affiliation with First Cleaning Corporation with parent organization, Wachovia Corporation, their investors are more confident as ever. Presidential Brokerage actually has a wide selection of goods coupled with that deep insight into addressing disparate requests called for by the working environment. It is a fact that giant corporations increasingly focus on the financial elite, they believe that there is even just a single entity across the monetary arena that is worthy of sound advice and quality items. What makes Presidential Brokerage a whole lot different from the rest is that, their fiscal advisers are not mandated to sell properties. As an aftermath, their most important motivation is to scout for the applicable assets for each client that they have. It also grants agents no added incentive or indirect pressure to really put on the market one over the other. As a fully- licensed dealer and consultant, the company has mushrooming offices in disparate parts in the United States. Currently, they can be located in Colorado and California that serves virtually all in the country. One of their missions is to encourage ingenuity and supply employment that will be rewarding to a lot of people. Another is to create commercial pecuniary health and be provoked in the pursuit of excellence through constant improvements. Since without vision, man will perish, the company has also come up with such in order to have a long- term track of the mission that has been set. Theirs is to highlight accountability and accomplishment but at the same time, stress ethical behavior and professional standards. They are towards the path of leaving a legacy of living up to what they have started long in the yesteryears by providing quality products as well as act with utmost integrity towards their clients and help achieve the financial goals of their customers. They are committed to the success of those that will they be making negotiations with since it is their clients and customers that is the reason for their existence. That is why they continue to seek for avenues on where they can better their service that they may exceed beyond the expectations of those that look up to them. Love Who You Married

Wednesday, January 23rd, 2008

By Angie Lewis I believe the word “love” is thrown around just a bit too nonchalantly. Don’t you think? People say they love but do nothing to SHOW that love. Love needs action to complete its purpose. So when I say “love who you married” that means to provide of your self in the marriage. That IS what love is! Lets take a look at 6 biblically based principles that make up several areas of loving. “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no records of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always preserves.” 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 1. Love Is Patient! Are you patient with your spouse? Patience is a virtue. It is a wonderful character trait to have and practice patience. Are you utilizing all of the potential that God has given you? Are you patient, or are you easily irritated and annoyed? Do you listen to what your spouse has to say? Are you considerate and understanding of their needs and desires? Being patient with your spouse is one way you furnish love to them. 2. Love Does Not Envy! Are you jealous of who you married? Do you ever envy or resent your spouse? Resentment runs rampant in marriages today, and it is literally tearing couples apart! You dont want resentment to tear apart your marriage, do you? So often I hear couples tell me how resentful they are of their spouse for one reason or another, but mostly over petty little things that only need to be discussed! Instead what are they doing? Getting even! Have you talked to your spouse today? 3. Love Is Not Self-Seeking!! This is a biggy! I talk quite a bit about selfishness in my book, “Journey on the Roads Less Traveled”, and in many of my articles. Why? I believe that it is a major issue with couples even though it doesnt always seem apparent. I know how a selfish spouse can tear the other down with them. Ive been there and done that one. I wasnt taught how to give of myself, being the spoiled little brat that I was growing up. I was so into “myself”, and so out in left field for my marriage, that is, until I found the love of Jesus for my life. We all have some selfish abilities that we shine intensely on occasion. But some of us are so selfish in marriage that we dont KNOW how to give of our self at all!! Many issues cause selfish behavior, but mostly it is lack of the spiritual Christ intervening in our psyche. What we allow into our mind is what we will output to others, mainly the person we married. This is why I stress in previous articles that for a healthy and sound marriage couples need to take care of them selves FIRST, then and only then, can they help the marriage. 4. Love Is Not Easily Angered! Do you get angry with your spouse over nothing! Do you ever think that you might be behaving impatient and intolerable with your spouse? What underlining problem might be charging your anger? If you are quick to anger, something deeper is bothering you. Until you get to the root of that, the anger will remain within your inner psyche ready to abuse whoever gets in the way. If you are abusing your spouse with your angry feelings, leave the house if you have to. It is wrong to berate your spouse with bad feelings of anger, and it hurts them terribly. “My dear brothers, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, for mans anger does not bring about the righteous life that God desires.” James 1:19-20 “A hot-tempered man stirs up dissension, but a patient man, calms a quarrel.” Proverbs 15:18 6. Love Does Not Delight In Evil but Rejoices In Truth! This has to be the champion of all the aspects of love because if we followed this one simple principle we would not need any other standards to tell us how to love, or what love is. This straightforward verse speaks for itself, but for some of you, maybe you are not sure what the TRUTH is. The truth is what will set you free from all of the above unpleasant aspects of your character, such as anger, resentment, envy, jealousy and strife. After all, these are only feelings that you carry around inside your head. You can either make them your life or find a new way of life. If you want to be free of these feelings you need to find the truth, right? You need to KNOW the truth, right? Deeply put, the truth not only sets us free from our weaknesses, but also makes us new people within that truth. Once we start applying THE truth into our life is when we can easily stop carrying around any bitter feelings, and negative attitudes that we may have. Simply said, truth is Gods words of wisdom. We will be walking in truth when we apply Gods truth into our life. Bottom line, the person who has wisdom is loving towards their spouse, faithful, honest, trustworthy, committed, trusts in God, puts God first, turns away from evil, knows right from wrong, listens and learns, and applies wisdom into their life and marriage. “Blessed is the man who finds wisdom, the man who gains understanding, for she is more profitable than silver and yields better returns than gold. She is more precious than rubies; nothing you desire can compare with her. Long life is in her right hand; in her left hand are riches and honor. Her ways are pleasant ways and all her paths are peace. She is a tree of life to those who embrace her; those who lay hold of her will be blessed.” Proverbs 3:13-18 And that is the truth! Do you have the wisdom to love who you married? Angie Lewis offers spiritual enlightenment tips for couples in marriage, and is the author of new release book JOURNEY ON THE ROADS LESS TRAVELED. Finding a Lender With Expertise in Bad Credit Mortgage Service

Tuesday, January 22nd, 2008

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Carrie_Reeder]Carrie Reeder If you have bad credit and need a mortgage loan, you will want to find a lender who specializes in bad credit mortgages. These lenders are much more likely to approve a bad credit mortgage loan than a traditional bank or lender. Here are some tips to help you find a lender with expertise in bad credit mortgage services: Search Online The online lending industry is very competitive. You will find many lenders who specialize in bad credit mortgage services. These lenders can often help by providing you with loan offers from more than one lender. This will ensure that you get the best interest rate and loan terms possible. Compare Lenders Once you have established a list of online lenders, you will need to contact them for more information. Before making the calls, prepare a list of questions to ask each lender. The questions you ask should be based on your individual needs, but here are a few things you may want to consider asking: What type of mortgage loans do you offer? How does your application process work? What type of interest rates can I expect? What are your lending fees? How much are closing costs? Are there pre-payment penalties? Are there any other fees I should know about? After contacting several different lenders, you will want to compare their offers side by side. Carefully review every aspect of the loan proposals. If there is anything that you do not understand, contact the lender for clarification. For more information, or for a list of mortgage lenders, visit [www.abcloanguide.com]www.abcloanguide.com.
